Patrick Brook Assessment

There are significant development pressures mounting upon the lower reaches of Patrick Brook.  As most of you are aware, there are applications before the Development Review Board (DRB) for sizable developments on both sides of the Patrick Brook: Haystack Crossing to the north, and Hinesburg Center II to the south.  In an effort to inform understanding of current conditions and potential for restoration, the Hinesburg Conservation Commission and Planning & Zoning Department retained Fluvial Matters, LLC to assess the stream and associated floodplains, and provide guidance on how to best ensure an ecologically healthy waterway.  The report suggests that this once-ditched stream section is working hard to regain its equilibrium, and that steps can be taken to improve its connectivity, which will improve habitat for wildlife and water quality.
