The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is currently working on a project to reconstruct the intersection at
VT Route 116 and Silver Street in the center of Hinesburg Village.
This is NOT a Town project, but rather a VTrans project, since Route 116 is a State highway.
The State plans to use Federal safety funds to re-align the intersection into a "T" intersection instead of the current
"Y" configuration. This project will also include the addition of turn lanes on Route 116 and Silver Street.
While it will be a hassle during construction, it is believed that these improvements will increase the safety and functionality
of the intersection. The State has been working on the design and permitting for this project for approximately 3 years. Because
of its proximity to the school, the Town has requested that the roadway construction occur during the school's summer break.
The State-selected contractor for the project is Don Weston Excavating. Weston plans to start staging and some work outside of
the roadway on June 8, 2009. The roadway construction will begin June 15, 2009 and is expected to be completed by the end of
August. Construction times are scheduled to be weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Expect traffic delays and seek alternate
routes if possible.
