As part of the Creekside development in 2005, the Town of Hinesburg received ownership of
Lot 1 in back of the Fire/Police stations. Lot 1 consists of 1.85 acres and combined with
the Fire Station/Wastewater Pump Station lot (.75 acres) and Police Station lot (.85 acres)
provides 3.45 acres of municipally owned land located on Route 116. The Hinesburg Selectboard
initiated the formation of this committee to explore possible uses of the property and make a
recommendation to the Selectboard about how to proceed and funding sources for the next steps
in project development.
The Lot 1 Committee has met several times since kick-off meeting March 30, 2010. Discussion has
centered on possible uses for rest of lot using a site plan developed for the Fire Station addition
that calls for the Fire Department and the Hinesburg Community Police to co-locate under one roof.
At the September 20, 2010 Selectboard meeting the board authorized using up to $10,000 to issue a
Request for Proposal (RFP) to
conduct a master plan feasibility analysis and preliminary engineering study of the
site. This was funded via $6400 from Fire Impact Fees, $1600 from Police Impact Fees, and $2000 from Fire
Department Reserves. The RFP was awarded to Broadleaf Landscape Architecture of Waitsfield. A public meeting
was held at Town Hall on January 5, 2011 to formally present their plan and to seek input from the public.
At this time the site plan is still under review. Another public meeting is to be held to present the
revised plan and solicit additional input from the public.
