AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMITTEE MINUTES

August 10, 2006

Committee Members Present: Rocky Martin, Carl Bohlen, Lea Cassidy, Alan Norris.

Commission Members Absent: Donna Constantineau, Julie Pierson, Andrew Burton.

Also Present: Alex Weinhagen, Jeanne Wilson.

The meeting began at approximately 7 pm.

*** FIRST ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING OF THIS COMMITTEE***

Meeting Time/Agenda/Location:

We decided to hold meetings once per month on the first Thursday. As such the next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept 7 at 7:00PM in the ground floor conference room at Town Hall.

General Discussion Topics:

The definition of affordable housing according to state statute (income <80% of MSA and all housing costs <30% gross annual income-somewhere in the neighborhood of $135,000 purchase price) and other definitions.

Land Trust and other housing groups that offer grants to income eligible families to make up the difference from the Chittenden County norm of much higher purchase prices.

Our long term goals for this committee. Possible speaker options for this committee and/or a larger group. Creation of web page on Town site for this committee.

Reviewed “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” handout, and handout of a gazillion housing groups/agencies/land trusts etc. Brief discussion of mobile homes and their importance in the affordable housing discussion.

Rocky offered to chair this committee, Carl Bohlen offered to be vice chair and Lea Cassidy volunteered to be secretary, slate to be voted on at next meeting.

Agenda for next meeting:

· Vote on officers.

· Brainstorm on and set priorities for major goals.

· Continue to work on Hinesburg definition of affordable housing.

· Discuss guest speaker options.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 9pm
