AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMITTEE MINUTES

 

September 7, 2006

 

Committee Members Present: Rocky Martin, Carl Bohlen, Lea Cassidy, Alan Norris, Donna Constantineau, Julie Pierson, Andrew Burton.

 

Commission Members Absent:  none.

 

Also Present: Dale Wernhoff, Mike Landers, Kelly Stole.

 

The meeting began at approximately 7 pm.

 

Introductions:    The group made introductions to each other, explaining their area of expertise and why they are interested in affordable housing.

 

Election of Officers:     Rocky Martin was nominated by Alan Norris for the position of Chairperson, this was seconded by Mike Landers.   Carl Bohlen was nominated by Rocky Martin for the position of Vice Chairperson and this was seconded by Julie Pierson.  Lea Cassidy was nominated for committee Secretary by Carl Bohlen, this was seconded by Julie Pierson.  It was decided to meet on the 1st Thursday of each month. 

 

Major Committee Goals:    The following goals were agreed upon for the committee by all in attendance.

·        Define affordable housing

·        Education for the Committee as well as the community. 

·        Inventory existing housing in the village and recommend to the Select Board and Planning Commission ways to bring affordable housing to Hinesburg.  

·        Affordable Housing Project recommendation(s).

 

Meeting Format & Speakers:      The format of the meetings was agreed upon to be approximately 2 hours in length starting with a short discussion period.  Next we will have a speaker each month and end with a wrap-up period.   For the October meeting, Carl Bohlen will contact the BCLT & LC Housing Development  to give us an overview of affordable housing.  At the November meeting, Mike Landers will set up someone from a for profit organization to speak to us.  This will be followed in December by a non profit speaker.

 

October Meeting Agenda (October 5th, 7pm at Town Hall): 

·        Continue to define affordable housing

·        Guest Speaker

·        Other topics as time allows
