Hinesburg Buy Local Task Force

Buy Local Workgroup: Jo White

- Resources: Added two members to her working group, both Lions

- Vendors: Currently contacting new and existing Market vendors

- Entertainment: Focus on adding music and entertainment to "jazz-up" the Market

Needs a donated PA system for small music ensembles, demos and announcements – could share with summer concert series

Looking at involving kids & students, CVU Music Groups

Comping performers with food baskets donated by vendors

Young Writers – readings Geoff Gevalt

Demos: exploring cooking demos: need food prep surface, water, AC and heat

- Take Home: Looking at offering more locally prepared food for take home

- Publicity/advertising: Sentinel, Record, Freep, 7 Days, Front Porch Forum

Explored idea of vendors posting new harvest and availability weekly on Front Porch Forum and elsewhere

- Site: looking at various venues in town: near Police St, Behind Lantmans, CVU,

- Behind Town Hall, current location, church land behind elem.school

Discussed need for parking, walking to Lantmans, and traffic considerations during rush hour

Vision: Discussion of formulating and articulating a vision for the future of the market as a framework for making tactical decisions now.

Local Gardening/ Ag Resources and Community Workgroup – James Donegan

- Had a promising discussion with Deb Bissonette at CVU

Exploring both school and community garden sites and initiative with perhaps a "planting day" focus. Possible options discussed: Kelly's Field, Labun Meadows, Wendy's land, Geprag Farm, Baptists Society land etc.

Plan to meet and discuss resources with the Select Board, ask for a meeting

Summary Discussion:

It was agreed that "Local" would indeed mean goods and services produced in the Hinesburg area and that all such goods and services would be a focus of our initiative.
