MINUTES (DRAFT)
VILLAGE STEERING COMMITTEE
May 14, 2007 (Monday, 7 pm,
Town Hall)
- Members present:
Donna Constantineau; George Dameron, Chair and ad hoc secretary;
Karla Munson, Dona Walker; members not present: Tracy Applin, Brian Busier, Rolf Kielman
- Minutes of April
8, 2007 approved
- Brief updates and reports:
- Transportation update: Karla Munson reported that we now have
sufficient information to be able to apply for the United-We-Ride grant
(deadline May 31).
- The committee thanked Karla Munson for
having taken the initiative with the Select Board to recommend applying
using enhancement grants for benches and signs. Even though the Select Board did not accept this
recommendation, the Board expressed its appreciation for the suggestion. KM suggested that we approach other
groups (the Lions Club, village lawyers, local businesses) for funds to
pay for benches and signs. The
VSC will also confer with town officials about how we might fund these
initiatives.
- Affordable housing discussion
update. DC reported that the
Affordable Housing (Town) Committee met with the interfaith group that
encourages and promotes affordable housing for the entire state. The Committee is now collecting
information on affordable housing needs in Hinesburg for town officials
(the information may include a survey).
- Traffic control. VSC members indicated their
satisfaction that the speed indicator was being used in the village.
- Current status of Planning Commission Village Growth
Project: report on current status
and timeline. The VSC perused the
report and agreed to attend the May 23 open meeting on the growth
project. At its June 11 VSC
meeting, the VSC will discuss its assessment of the report and forward
that assessment to the Planning Commission and town planner. The VSC agreed to concern itself with
the entire area of the Village Growth Project (not just the village
district). There was a consensus
on the committee that no zoning district should be given priority over
others when it comes to the timing of the implementation of development
projects.
- Signage (VSC recommendation) and timeline. There is no information to report
regarding village signage (at the entry points of the village district).
- There were no announcements or new business to discuss.
- The agenda for the June 11 meeting is to discuss the
outcome of the May 23 meeting on the Village Growth Project and to
generate a committee assessment.
