New Town Forest Planning Committee

MINUTES of August 12, 2008

Opening

The regular meeting of the New Town Forest Planning Committee was called to order at 7:10 pm on August 12, 2008 in the Town Hall by Kristen Sharpless.

Tax issue

Present members decided to ask Andrea or Susan if they would be willing to draft a letter/article for the Record by next meeting informing the public of the facts related to this issue. One idea was to then ask Alex if he would be willing to send it in as the Town Planner, rather than having it come from the BTF Committee, HLT, or HCC which could be seen as biased parties.

Walks - Scheduling

Bat walk – Thursday, August 18 – 6pm-dark (need to confirm time with Scott Darling)

Wetlands Walk – Sunday, September 21 – pm (need to set time)

Recreation/Trails Walk – Saturday, September 27 – am (need to confirm time with Tyler)

Forest Integrator Walk – Saturday, October 18 – 9am-noon (confirmed with M. Snyder)

Forum – Wednesday, October 29 – suggested time 7-9:30pm (need to confirm with rest of committee)

Bat Walk – details

Mike reported that he has talked with Scott and they are working on a plan for the evening. We agreed that we would like to try to keep the walk on the BTF if possible to highlight the forest, rather than focus on just seeing bats. Kristen will communicate this to Scott, and will put together a flier to advertise the walk.

Vision and goals

We spent time revising the vision statement and goals and will revisit both next meeting when more people are present.
