Hinesburg Village Steering Committee
Meeting Minutes – February 11, 2008
Present: Brian Busier, George Dameron, Rolf Kielman, Aaron Kimball, Karla Munson, and Dona Walker
Absent: Donna Constantineau
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
Minutes were not available for the January 14, 2008 meeting.
There are two items on our agenda for this evening:
1. Relocation of the Veteran’s Memorial Monument
Brian has drafted a letter to the Selectboard with our recommendations for relocating the monument to the Town Hall area. The Steering Committee feels the monument is not given the proper recognition where it is, is not in an attractive location, and needs more exposure. Moving the monument by the new flag pole beside the Town Hall, would provide better exposure and give more importance and respect to the veterans whose names are engraved on the monument. The monument should be in a place where people congregate. We also feel the monument should have lighting, as well as the new flagpole. If not moved to the Town Hall, it should be in a new Town Green. It was suggested that we get a picture of what the new Silver Street intersection will look like and how that affects the exposure to the monument. If it is determined that the monument should be left where it is, we feel there is quite a lot of work that could be done to make the monument more accessible and more attractive.
2. Village Growth Center Zoning Changes
The rest of our meeting related to discussion of the proposed changes. Following are some of the points discussed and questions raised:
–Should Rolf talk to Alex to see if they want our comments
–Ask why there is such a long timeframe for approval from the Selectboard
–Should a phasing policy be put in place
–When will the Official Map of new infrastructures be done and we feel this should be adopted with all the zoning changes
–Adverse impact on life in Village with increased density and what are plans for expansion of infrastructures
–What measures taken to disapprove big box stores
–Where did 1940 come from for historical distinctions
We will continue discussion of design standards at our next meeting and hold the above questions/comments until after that meeting.
Other Business:
George Dameron stated that the St. Michaels student is working hard on the historical information of the Village and is working towards bringing it all together. He also felt that trucks are still going too fast on Village town roads and he will speak to Jeanne Wilson again.
The next meeting will be February 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the lower conference room at the Town Hall.
Meeting adjoined at 8:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Karla Munson (acting secretary)
