Hinesburg Affordable Housing Committee
Meeting Minutes
April 1, 2009
Committee Members Present: Rocky Martin, Carl Bohlen, Andrea Brainard, George Bedard, Dale Wernhoff.
The meeting came to order at approximately 7:05 PM.
New Committee Member: On March 16, 2009, the Select Board appointed Andrea Brainard to the Hinesburg Affordable Housing Committee. Welcome to the committee, Andrea!
Updating New (and almost new) Committee Members: Rocky, Carl, and Dale reviewed the HAHC’s activities over the last few months with Andrea (tonight is her first meeting) and George (this is his second time here). We talked about why we were formed, when we started, and what we’ve been up to. (For this information and more go to http://www.hinesburg.org/ahc.html).
Champlain Housing Loan Fund: Carl handed out information on this fund. It is a grant from the state and the Vermont Community Development Program that is administered by the Champlain Housing Trust. It provides reduced interest loans to low income homeowners for needed home repairs. Carl stated the philosophy behind the fund is to not only build new affordable housing but to maintain the affordable housing we already have.
Housing Needs Assessment: We discussed the Housing Needs Assessment that we would like to have done for the town. This would provide us with some hard data on the town’s status. We would like to get a sample that we can bring to a future meeting to use as a template for our own.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:45 PM.
Next Meeting – May 7, 2009
May 7th – Discuss how often we should meet, monthly or every other month; come up with a goal for us to latch on to (had lots of dead ends and wheel spinning lately); bring in a map of the town with potential affordable housing sites located, just to see what we have to work with; bring in HAHC Survey results for Andrea and George; get a sample Housing Needs Assessment to familiarize ourselves with one.
Respectfully submitted
Dale Wernhoff
