New Town Forest Planning Committee
Meeting Minutes - April 2, 2009
Opening
The meeting of the New Town Forest Planning Committee was called to order at 7:30 pm on April 2, 2009 in the Town Hall by Kristen Sharpless. Previous meeting’s minutes were put to motion and passed.
Present
Kristen Sharpless (chair), Andrea Morgante, Michael Snyder, Jean Isham, Rhonda Mace, Tim Cornish, and Kathleen Tarkington
Absent
Lenore Budd, Steward Pierson, Lisa Godfrey
Submission of New Town Forest Name Proposal
A member brought to light several possible issues concerning the name proposal being sent to the Select Board. These will be discussed in the following meeting upon the return of all of the committee’s members.
Planting and Small Projects
Andrea expressed the need to place flagging in wet depressions so that the Intervale Conservation Nursery workers would know proper planting locations. There was also a discussion about the desire to put posts and a gate in place before the spring turkey season officially begins.
Volunteers Needed
It was decided that June 6th, National Trails Day, would be designated as a volunteer work day. This will occur once the Intervale Conservation Nursery has finished their planting. Volunteers will be needed to place tubing and brush blankets down around saplings. Depending on the number and duration of volunteers, the action may be continued on the following day. Several members offered to make community connections in order to drum up enough volunteers to have a successful Trails Day.
Division of Management Plan and Committee Powers
Lisa Godfrey volunteered to draft the water portion of the management plan and Andrea will address the remaining landscape connections section of the plan. There was some discussion as to the self-imposed limits put upon the committee concerning small projects that need to take place during the planning process.
Next Meetings
The next meeting will be on April 16, 2009.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00PM.
Respectfully submitted by Kathleen Tarkington
