Meeting Minutes
January 12, 2009
Members Present: Brian Busier, George Dameron, Rolf Kielman, Aaron Kimball, Karla Munson
Members Absent: Dona Walker, and one seat vacant
Meeting called to order at 7:09 p.m. - Town Hall
1) Minutes of 12/15/08 meeting approved with minor revision.
2) Discussed sending (at least) quarterly updates from the VSC to Town Administrator Jeanne Wilson for inclusion in the weekly update municipal personnel receive. If this suggestion is accepted this action may spark other town committees and boards to do the same. AK to check with JW about this. In addition, it was also suggested that a periodic update also be submitted to the Hinesburg Record for publication. The suggestion was also made to include all official VSC correspondence on our webpage on hinesburg.org. This would include, but not be limited to, correspondence to other town boards and committees, VSC recommendations, and other advisory opinions put forth from the VSC. AK to post most recent documents.
3) Discussion and review of two VSC letters. The GD drafted letter concerning traffic noise, speed, and its impact on the village. And a letter drafted by RK to the Select Board laying out the VSC's priority list for sidewalk completion in the village area. Both letters approved by the VSC (with a minor revision to the sidewalk list). RK to forward both to the Select Board.
4) The Village Growth Area project continues. Next public hearing to take place on January 14th. Through several readings of the proposal the VSC is in favor of the idea and supports moving forward on this. Several VSC members expressed their intention to attend the hearing.
5) Town Hall clock update. RK shared a few drawing ideas about what a clock would look like on the town hall facade. Ideas and suggestions about what the clock would look like, where it would look best, how it would be installed, and how to pay for it was talked about. This conversation, and the sample drawings, are to be shared the Lion's club. This is still just an idea in the works.
6) RK shared sample drawings for 'Welcome to Hinesburg' signs that might be placed along Route 116. It was suggested that these signs be specific to the Village and should say so. The sign in its final form should include 'Hinesburg Village' and 'established 1762'. In addition to contributing positively to the visual presence of the town it is thought that these signs might also serve as traffic calming devices for the Village. This is still an idea in the works. The drawings are to be re-worked a bit. Continued discussion to follow.
7) Saputo update. The Select Board has created the Saputo Redevelopment Steering Committee. RK has been appointed (by the Select Board) to be one of the seven members. We talked about the primary objectives of the SRSC and who else might be a good candidate for the board.
