Meeting Minutes

October 12, 2009


Members present: Rolf Kielman, Karla Munson, Dona Walker, George Dameron, Brian Busier

Members Absent: Jane Starkweather, Aaron Kimball


1. September minutes will be approved next (November) meeting


2. Discussion of membership and roles of committee members. Chair, recording secretary and possible new members.

Chair: Rolf Kielman has volunteered to serve as chair for another year, and all members support him

Secretary: Aaron Kimball will serve as secretary for the next year

New terms: GD, DW, BB, AK have all volunteered to serve another term (subject to approval of Select Board)


3. Possible work activities for the VSC during 2009-2010:

         1) ***Possible course of action with regard to possible improvements to Memorial Park

- possible grant money available—Jane Starkweather, Karla Munson, and Rolf Kielman

         2) Village entry signs

- possible grant money available—Karla Munson, Rolf Kielman

         3) Town clock with the lion's Club

- idea has been presented to the lion's club—Rolf Kielman, Karla Munson

         4) Continued pedestrian improvements as outlined in the minutes of our July meeting

- possible grant money—George Dameron and Brian Busier

         5) ***Guide to the history and buildings of the Hinesburg Village area

- project still in the works—George Dameron, Dona Walker, and Aaron Kimball

         6) improvements to the canal system

- will continue to press for improvements—Dona Walker, Rolf Kielman.

         7) ***Advocate for a Town Green—Jane Starkweather, Rolf Kielman


***It was suggested that emphasis to be placed on items 1, 5, and 7 for the upcoming year.  


Possible action for next meeting:  a) GD to send out walking tour draft for discussion and comment, b) DW can do research regarding ownership and rights-of-way regarding canal, c) memorial park re-design, d) sidewalks, e) implications for use of space if police combined with fire department


5. Possible items for future letter to Select Board:  landscaping, benches (in particular), lighting for pedestrians, pots of flowers


6. Village signs: two signs are currently under discussion by VSC (possibly located on site of new drug store, to be coordinated with development, and in KM’s field)


7. Status of Saputo property. Currently on market. Town committee met once this summer, currently waiting to see what happens regarding possible sale


8. For possible discussion at next (November) meeting: consolidation of fire and police services and implications for use of space (possible location of farmer's market).
