Current Town Plan & Maps

Hinesburg's Town Plan was originally adopted in 1971.  The most recent update was approved July 7, 2021.  This partial update involved a rewrite of Chapter 8 (Energy). The last complete update to the plan was done in 2017.  The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission approved the plan, confirmed Hinesburg's planning process, and granted an affirmative determination of energy compliance (pursuant to Title 24, V.S.A. 4352).

See the links below for the plan, appendices, and supporting maps.  The Hinesburg Town Plan is the principal policy statement for the Town of Hinesburg, presenting a snapshot of existing conditions and a vision for the future.

The Town Plan serves as the framework for the decisions that will guide the Town's growth over the next eight year planning period, as well as for the long term future of the town. The Town Plan outlines a vision through a set of goals and objectives that will be implemented as recommended by the Plan.

The Town Plan is used by the Hinesburg Planning Commission, Select Board, Development Review Board, Conservation Commission, as well as regional and state agencies. It is also meant as a guide to individuals and other organizations for decisions affecting the Town.

Specific uses and purposes of the Plan include:

  • A framework for planning the future of the town
  • A guide to decision-making in development review
  • The basis for revisions to Zoning and Subdivision Bylaws
  • The basis for a capital budget and plan
  • To serve as a policy document in the Act 250 process and other regulatory proceedings
  • To recommend studies to address specific town issues
